Testing Yourself (U-Test)

The quick self testing service for men and women!*

The U-Test service is for people who do not have any symptoms i.e. any changes in your body or health that you are worried about.*

This is a quick testing service where you will see a Sexual Health Technician. The Technician will ask you some quick, basic questions to ensure this is the right service for you*. The U-Test service runs both walk-in and appointment clinics, we also offer evening appointments on Wednesdays, see timetable for details

You will not see a doctor or a nurse and you will not have an examination.  You will be offered all tests suitable for someone with no symptoms.

The Tests

The U-Test for a Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia will be;

  • A urine sample for men
  • A self taken vaginal swab for women

A blood test will be taken for you by the technician for HIV and Syphilis. If you are feeling nervous about giving blood tell your technician. They will do everything they can to make giving a blood sample less uncomfortable for you.

At The Wolverton Centre we recommend that all clients are tested for these sexually transmitted infections:

Gonorrhoea – is a bacterial infection, which can be symptom free and may affect your health if left untreated.

Chlamydia – is a bacterial infection, which is often symptom free and may affect your health if left untreated.

HIV – is a virus which attacks the body’s immune system. This is a manageable condition for which there is excellent treatment available in the UK. This may be symptom free for many years.

Syphilis – rarely has any symptoms in the early stages but may affect your health in the future if left untreated.

Incubation periods

There is an incubation period with these infections. This is the period of time from when you had sex to when the infection will become detectable on the test.

For Chlamydia and Gonorrhea this is up to 2 weeks and for HIV this is 1 month.

If you have had any unprotected sex with a new partner in this time period we suggest you test today and again after the incubation period.  If you have any questions today, please ask the technician.

If you have any problems or questions which the sexual health technician is unable to deal with, you may be asked to speak with a doctor or nurse.

Negative results will be sent to you by text message with in 4-7 days.  If you have an infection; we need to repeat one of your tests or obtain further information from you, we will phone you to arrange for you to return for treatment.
